Types Of Fire and Life Safety Systems
Fire Alarms – Fire Alarm systems are designed to detect fires and alert people within the property to evacuate. If the system is activated the alarm will trigger an alarm condition. An alarm condition could either trigger internal audible or visual alarms to activate and/or notify a monitoring centre. A fire alarm is a life safety system that is sometimes necessary to have by law.
Fire Extinguishers – Portable Fire Extinguishers are designed to allow a competent person to extinguish a small fire or to contain a fire for long enough to enable safe escape from the premises. There are different types of fire extinguisher, each to be used only on specific classes of fire. It is critical that all risks within an area are covered by the correct type of extinguisher/s.
Emergency Lighting – Emergency Lighting Systems are designed to illuminate rooms and exit routes around a property during an emergency or during a lighting circuit power failure. Generally each fitting will contain a battery pack which is designed to last for a specified time – usually 3 hours. When the power to the fitting fails, it automatically switches to battery power and the light should illuminate.
