Gate Automation

Suffolk Fire and Security install new gate automation systems. We can maintain and repair your existing automatic gates.

We carry out gate automation works throughout Suffolk. Being based in Stowmarket, in the heart of Suffolk, we cover Ipswich, Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Woodbridge, Aldeburgh and all places in between. We also cover Essex and Cambridgeshire, including Colchester, Chelmsford and Cambridge.

Safety is paramount

Safety really is paramount. A recent survey showed that 90% of automatic gates that are in use are unsafe. Therefore, we make it a priority that all of our gate automation installs are fitted so that they are deemed safe. This includes the correct placement and number of safety devices. Safety devices can come in the form of photocells, safety edges, lasers, finger guards, physical barriers and pressure-sensitive motors.

Ideally, all automatic swing style gates should have at least 3 hinges. As a result, a single point of failure of a hinge does not cause a catastrophic failure. A gate strap fitted around the top of the post and gate will reduce the risk of a crush if a failure occurs on a 2 hinged gate.

As the owner of an automatic gate, you are responsible for the safe working of the gate. This includes making sure the gate is serviced at regular intervals. The interval varies upon the usage of the gate.

What we do

If you already have an automated gate, we can assess it to ensure it is deemed safe, therefore, giving you peace of mind. During a visit, any risks will be made clear, along with solutions possible to control the risk.

If you have an existing gate that you would like to automate, we will provide you with a safe, aesthetic, reliable solution

Different types of gates exist, including sliding gates, swing gates, and bi-fold gates. There are multiple versions of each, and different automation systems available.

Automation systems include tracks and telescopic systems for sliding gates. Underground motors, RAM and articulated motors for swing gates.

What kind of triggers will open the gates is another consideration. An intercom system that links through to either a phone or handset is recommended. This allows a visitor to alert you to their presence. Remote fobs, proximity tags, and keypads can also be used for gaining access by authorized persons. If security is not a factor, photocells and/or ground loops can be fitted so that the gates automatically open on approach.
