Having your systems inspected on a regular basis will ensure that all elements of your systems are working correctly, it will also ensure that you are fulfilling your legal responsibilities in the case of fire alarms and emergency lighting. Insurance companies will also require that your systems are maintained on a regular basis. Accredited by the SSAIB for intruder alarms, CCTV, and access control means we are approved by all insurance companies to provide this service.
Life safety systems are a critical part of any business premises. You can be spot-checked at any time by a fire safety officer. If you are not complying with your legal responsibilities, severe penalties could be imposed.
Are you aware of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005?
Do you know who is, or what the responsibilities of the ‘Responsible Person’ are?
If you are unfamiliar with the above, chances are you could be in breach of the Order, risking an unlimited fine or potentially imprisonment.
As a responsible person you must:
1. Test your fire alarm weekly.
2. Test your emergency lighting Monthly.
3. Check both the fire and emergency lighting systems visually on a daily basis.
4. Document all records of tests, faults, inspections in the system log book.
5. Conduct a full fire evacuation drill at least once every 12 months.
6. Have your fire alarm maintained by a competent contractor at six monthly intervals at a minimum, dependent upon the manufacturers recommendations, this could be quarterly.
7. Have your emergency lighting systems tested by a competent contractor at least once every twelve months, or at the manufacturers recommended interval, for the duration of the rating of the emergency light.
